I began experimenting in my sketchbook with how light is represented and changes with shadows. That most shadows are not grey or dull but can be colourful too. These were some 15 minute paintings I created to understand more about colour and lighting and simplifying the images into blocks.

I then wanted to try and create composition and focus more on the figurative element. These were more experimentations that allowed me to realise I loved the intensity of a black background and how light and figures are altered by this.

My next steps were creating sketches of figures in my book to understand how the human body operates, the lumps and bumps of female figure. By doing so, I gained a real appreciation for the vulnerability that comes with exposing ones own body.
